Transitional housing is to facilitate the movement from the streets or emergency shelters to permanent housing. Some transitional housing facilities are specific-population based (e.g. substance abusers, veterans, families), and in such cases also provide for the special needs of their resident populations. Transitional housing is defined by HUD as being for 6-24 months.

Provides safe, clean and affordable transitional housing to battered, homeless women and their children. The goal of the YWCA Domestic Violence Transitional Housing Program is to prevent homeless battered women and children from returning to homelessness by providing protective transitional housing and goals.
